I am Zhang Dandan, a PhD candidate in Chinese art history, and my research interest is Daoist art, specifically extant Daoist robes in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Thanks to Friends of the Art Museum, I conducted a field trip to Europe and view the robes collected in the Guimet Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
I am Tao Shuhui and a Ph.D year-two student in the Fine Arts Department. My research interest is Chinese Calligraphy, especially Bronze Inscription Calligraphy in the Jiaqing and Daoguang Periods. With the generous grant from the Friends of the Art Museum, I had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Mainland China and Taiwan this year to collect the essential data for my graduate thesis. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Friends for their support!
I am Jia Zhen, a PhD student in the Department of Fine arts. My research interest focuses on women in visual arts in the Chinese context, both as artists and as "spectacles". In my PhD study, I chose the topic of images of mannish women in Republican China (1920-1940). Thanks for the Friends’ sponsorship, which allowed me to visit three Chinese cities and to collect many images and other resources from these cities’ libraries.
