With the new South Island Metro Line now operational, the art galleries in the Wong Chuk Hang area have become much more accessible. Perched on the edge of Aberdeen Harbour, this area is home to over 25 local and International contemporary art galleries. On Thursday April 20th we plan to visit three of them; Pekin Fine Arts, Rossi Rossi and Sin Sin Atelier.
We will start at Pekin Fine Arts which is hosting poser II, a group exhibition of figurative/portraiture re-examined by eight artists. These new interpretations of figurative artwork can reveal the bond between artist and subject. Director Meg Maggio will be hand to speak to the group.
Our next stop will be Rossi Rossi where they are holding a solo exhibit of the Iranian born, American artist Siah Armajani. Works on view will cover his seven decade long career and include early works on paper and fabric, ideational architectural models, large-scale sculpture and recent works on paper. Inspired by poetry, American vernacular architecture, Western philosophy and his native Persian heritage, Armajani is recognised as a pioneering figure in the conceptualisation of the role of art in the public realm.
Our final stop is Sin Sin Fine Arts where we will see a solo exhibit of artworks by Indonesian artist Hanafi. Hanafi’s is an abstract painter who conjures the world in atmospheres of muted but luminous colours. Hanafi’s elegant, muted colour palette is unique: his deftly mixed tones of light brown, gold, blue, grey and white seem infused with the luminosity of natural light. Mrs Sin Sin will meet us at her Atelier and speak to the group.
We have arranged for an optional lunch at the Sin Sin's Atelier. Lunch will be a simple wholesome vegetarian lunch prepared with local organic ingredients.
The cost for the lunch is not included in the event fee. Please bring 200 HKD if you plan to join us for lunch.
Hope to see you on April 20th
