BONHAMS (Hong Kong) Limited
Suite 2001, One Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty

6.00pm – Registration
6.45pm - Annual General Meeting
7:15 pm - The meeting will be followed by the presentation, “Collecting – Addiction or Therapy?” by Mr. Tony Miller

A dozen years ago, Tony Miller and his wife were invited by CUHK’s Art Museum Director at the time, Professor Peter Lam, to display their collection of Chinese carved porcelain (diaoci) in the ground-breaking exhibition, “Elegance in Relief”. Shortly after, Tony became a member of the Min Chiu Society. In reflecting on the unplanned journey that led to the Society’s door, Tony will discuss other things that he and his wife have collected, and where, and why. He will also share with members some of their post-exhibition acquisitions of the carved genre, and what these have revealed about Chen Guozhi, the master carver of Jingdezhen.

Tony Milleris a long-time Hong Kong resident and a former President of the Oriental Ceramics Society (OCS), with a keen interest in Chinese painting, porcelain, jade and the conversations across borders that have influenced art and style through the ages. Recent publications include Linglong - Literati Luxuries of the Late Ming Period, and 17th Century Disruptors – The Dutch Rise to Dominance of the Chinese Porcelain Trade. In 2005-06, he and his wife Nga-ching co-organized the exhibition Elegance in Relief – Carved Porcelain from Jingdezhen of the 19th to early 20th Century at the Art Museum at CUHK.
