Betty Lo and Chris Mok have kindly invited us to view their private collection of Traditional Himalayan Jewellery and Export Chinese Silver on Thursday November 17th.

The splendour of traditional jewellery of the Himalayan region including Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan and Mongolia has an extraordinary visual effect with exuberant use of precious metals and gemstones. The display will feature over 80 sets of extraordinary personal ornaments from the Himalayan region and Mongolia.

There will also be a selection of post 1850 Chinese Export Silver decorated with traditional Chinese motifs. Perceived as “exotic” in the West but imbued with allegorical meaning for the Chinese; it illustrates the fusion of these two cultures across the globe.

Betty Lo is a member of the Advisory Board and member of the Management Committee of the Art Museum CUHK.  Christopher Mok is the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Art Museum CUHK and a member of the Management Committee of the Art Museum. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Chinese Studies at CUHK.

For participants taking the shuttle bus, we will meet at the bus stop outside Edinburgh Place (GPO – General Post Office by Jardine House)  in Central by 2:15pm to catch the shuttle.  The bus will leave promptly at 2:30.
